Verdict
The NEC MultiSync EA232WMi certainly isn’t as cheap as budget TN panels. But from its depth of colour and versatility of image, down to the functional design and the wealth of features and tools, this is an excellent screen for professionals and up-market home users.

NEC have just released the latest in the line-up of their professional PA series monitors. We have already fully tested the 24″ PA241W back in April, and more recently the 27″ PA271W at the end of August. These new screens are aimed at colour enthusiasts and the professional market and offer some excellent performance to meet the high demands of their users. The new PA231W is 23″ in size, entering a sector which has seen some interesting developments over the last couple of years. While there are of course the usual TN Film panels available, there has been an influx in the higher end IPS based screens, owing largely to the launch of the so-called e-IPS technology. This has helped drive production costs down, making it affordable and sensible for display manufacturers to launch IPS panels into the relatively low cost 23″ base. We’ve already looked at models such as the NEC EA231WMi, Dell U2311H and Viewsonic VP2365wb which are all very popular in this size.

Munich, 6 May 2010 – NEC Display Solutions has extended its range of monitors with the addition of the NEC AccuSync® AS231WM, an entry-level 23-inch, 16:9 format model aimed resolutely at the corporate market. The new model – the largest in the AccuSync® range for standard office applications – boasts an elegant design while at the same time offering excellent value for money. Environmental aspects have been fully taken into account. Its TCO 5.0 certification and Energy Star 5.0 label attest to its observance of strict environmental and ergonomics standards.

The AS231WM’s wide format conforms to people’s natural viewing habits. Its eye-friendly size enables the user to arrange application windows side by side, thus making a significant contribution to overall productivity. Thanks to Rapid Response technology for extremely fast image composition, response time amounts to just five milliseconds. NEC’s innovative dual backlight technology offers a brightness of 250 cd/m², providing ideal viewing comfort and a modest power consumption of just 25 watts. When set to eco mode, power use is reduced to no more than 22 watts. The amount of CO₂ saved thereby is calculated by the display’s carbon savings meter, encouraging the user to work energy efficiently.

Integrated loudspeakers and a headphone jack provide ideal conditions for multimedia applications, such as computer based trainings. PC connection is facilitated either by the analogue 15-pin video link or digital DVI interface, thus supporting two signal sources. A VESA mount offers a range of wall-mounting options, allowing to save precious desk space.

Availability, price and warranty

The NEC AccuSync^® AS231WM in black is available in stores from May onwards. The supplied package includes a power cable, one analogue signal cable, an audio cable and a user manual. NEC Display Solutions Europe offers a three-year warranty including backlights.

Now also Energy Star® rated and featuring the eco-mode, these Hard Glass monitors use typically less than 1W when in standby mode thus saving energy and reducing the CO2 emissions into the environment.

The ProLite P1705S, PB1705S and P1905S feature toughened safety glass fitted behind the bezel that offers 8H hardness rating capable of resisting above normal pressure or impact to the displays.   In addition they are now Windows 7 compliant and feature the latest backlight technology that reduces power consumption to 19W (20W on P1905S model).
